Windows Sidebar Styler is an application which takes advantage of various technologies introduced in Windows Vista in order to provide extensions to the existing functionality of Windows Sidebar.
Windows Sidebar Styler can be used on both Windows Vista and XP or Server 2003, provided that the necessary prerequisites are installed. Below is a list of required applications and frameworks which have to be installed in order for Windows Sidebar and the extensions to function correctly.
For use in Windows Vista:
None – Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 is pre-installed in Windows Vista
For use in Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1:
Project “VAIO” Preview Build #2 or newer
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable
The following known issues are planned to be fixed in the next release of Windows Sidebar Styler.
- Gadgets with WPF support are currently unable to save settings in a unified way (via an API). Developers should save settings to a user-specific data file instead.
- Running instances of Gadgets with WPF support are currently unable to dock to the bar.
- Running instances of Gadgets with WPF support may not be uninstalled sometimes. To work this around close these instances, restart Windows Sidebar and try again.
